It’s not possible to effectively help by solving only one problem. We know that a newly renovated school won’t change a child’s life on its own if they come to class hungry and lack basic necessities, struggle with difficult experiences or don’t believe their future can look different. Similarly, one-time material assistance isn’t enough if a child doesn’t have access to education, support, and opportunities for growth.
That’s why our activites complement each other. Education is the foundation of everything we do, but we also know a child needs much more than just a place to learn. We renovate schools, organize material support for the poorest students, sew reusable sanitary pads for girls, and run workshops that strengthen self-esteem, teach how to cope with harassment, build confidence, and foster belief in one’s own abilities. We show children and young people that the world is bigger than the place where they were born, that education and the internet create real opportunities, and that they have the right to dream and pursue their goals.
We also know that you can’t truly help a child if their family is still living in extreme poverty. That’s why, through the “Gift a Goat” project we support entire families—giving them a chance to have their own source of income and greater independence. It’s these kinds of actions that help children attend school regularly instead of having to work, and that give girls a better chance to finish their education rather than being married off too early.
At the same time, we carry out educational activities in schools in Poland. We talk with young people about cultural differences, inequalities around the world, responsibility for one’s words, and how much influence hate can have on another person. We show that poverty doesn’t mean someone is less worthy, and that a person’s birthplace should not determine their future. We organize workshops both in Malawi and in Poland because we know that real change starts with education, understanding, and building awareness on both sides of the world.
Our goal isn’t short-term help but creating conditions for children and their families to achieve lasting change. We want these young people to have a real chance to break free from poverty, get an education, and ultimately make decisions about their own future.
